With the continuous support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), UNIDO’s current focus is on promoting the technology among potential adopters strengthening the business case for this green technology, and furthering its commercialization in Vietnam. This event was performed to raise the interest of other local manufacturers and to enable and create great interest in producing small-scale pyrolysis units.

 

To ensure that the restrictions set by the COVID-19 pandemic could be met, while also ensuring the maximum participation at the dissemination event of a larger audience from across the country, the event was conducted as a hybrid workshop with both online and offline participants joining in. Attending the workshop were a total of 73 delegates from all over the country. These included managers from central and local ministries; experts, researchers, and technicians from different associations, institutes, universities, international organizations, and enterprises operating in the field of coffee farming and processing, manufacturing agricultural equipment, and biochar production and trade.

 

The full-day workshop programme consisted of four sections, covering the following key topics:

    • Dissemination of information: Introduction to concepts, needs, development trends, meaning of pyrolysis technology and biochar; Dissemination of information on small-scale pyrolysis technology transferred from Switzerland.
    • On-site visit to Pyrolysis system: On-site visit to the small-scale pyrolysis system (PPV300) at the mechanical workshop of Viet Hien Mechanical Company Limited, located at Residential Group 7, Tan Lap Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province.
    • Testimonials and real-life experiences: Sharing of experiences in the operation and application of small-scale pyrolysis systems in Vietnam and its additional business potential.
    • Technical exchange: In-depth technical exchange and Q&A session with delegates interested in the application of pyrolysis technology.
